I suppose there is good reason for it, but it is a bit weird that we use two
different types in the same function prototype, to represent time.

The only reason I had to choose int was that I expect that probing_interval_ms
never exceed the range of a int.
 
Changed the type from probing_interval_ms form int to int64_t.
